Cupcakes are small baked pastries made in paper liners, with key ingredients including eggs, cake flour, granulated sugar, and fats. Traditional methods use a cake mix with whole eggs and quick-acting baking powder to enhance leavening, followed by baking at 180°C until set. Modern techniques, on the other hand, involve separately whipping the egg whites to soft peaks and then folding them into the yolk mixture; some recipes also incorporate orange juice or cornstarch to refine the flavor, while the baking temperature is lowered to 160°C and the baking time extended to over 30 minutes. Once cooled, the finished product is often decorated on top with piped whipped cream.
